The Dirty Collective
The Dirty Collective, a parasitic group of emerging curators, react against the undernourished art world in the city of Leeds, in order to extend visual awareness and curiosity through alternative methods of curation. The filthy-minded group was founded in 2008 with the exhibition with You’ve Got Some Explaining To Do. Inspired by the repulsive messiness of avant-garde art and theory in the late 1990s, the collective found their niche by embracing down-and-dirty elements of space and themes, and aspire to create experimental and critically effective environments for which to privilege art pieces than what has been achieved through traditional methods. Each member of the collective specialises in a varied discipline of the visual arts from fine art practice to art theory and history.
The Dirty Collective are: Deborah Britton, Tiba Fattori, Louise Flower, Alice Lea, Melanie Marsh, Andy Nizinskyj, Emily Phelps, Antonia Seroff, Leah Swain, Myrsinie Symeou, Mark Whiteman, Mette Woller.
