Toxic Swamp 2008

Description

Potter's work surrounds the notion of breaking boundaries in practice through the development from drawing and animation to diverse sculptural forms. Originating from her childlike drawings of animals and unique characters, the pieces are transformed into soft sculptures, ambiguously becoming neither and instead envisaging a metamorphosis in between. Each object is constructed using a two-piece structure, further highlighting the change from flat image to sculpture through the use of stuffing and stitching. As 'You've Got Some Explaining To Do' explores the destruction of social boundaries, as does 'Toxic Swamp' to the boundaries of material and production, pushing one medium to the limit so to become another entirely.
