Instructional Media, 1-3 (2007) - Power presentations

Description

Michael Day works within the sphere of photography, video, interactive media and installation art. His practice is characterised by a visual minimalism, which produces in the viewer as sense of detachment. With pieces such as Instructional Media, 1-3 he explores the alteration of perceptions and behaviours through the intervention of technology, also making a comment on the notions of authorship, on art consumption, and on visual culture as a whole. Using the language of self-help guides and business jargon, assembled in incongruous phrases, Instructional Media is a critique on capitalism, taking a humorous stance, which makes us aware of the absurdity to seek advice or to look for a single ideal solution to everyday dilemmas and unsolvable problems.
